Kingsway Christian School is a division of the KIngsway Centre of Concern, which is a registered non-profit organisation committed to making a difference in communities affected byt poverty, abuse and HIS/Aids. As well as the school it runs the Thandanani House of Refuge. The school aims to provide outstanidng education and care of children from the Zandspruit Informal Settlement community on the outskirts of the sprawling metropolis of Johannesburg, South Africa. The school was started in 1986 in a garage by a group of concerned Christian people desiring to provide educational support to children spending their time of the streets. Today they cater for 250 socially disadvataged children from Preschool to Grade 7, the majority of students coming from South African disadvantaged families. Presently the school is housed in a church in a community several miles from where the students live. The school wishes to move the school to within the informal settlement area. Land has been aquired and permission to build both school and House of Refuge been given. |
